Blog Post 6- A reflection of my choreographic process so far

Image
My choreographic process so far is going well and I feel very productive during the lessons, which my teacher has come to me and said. I have edited my music to 9 minutes and 30 seconds, I think the blend from each piece is very appropriate for the messaging coming across at that point. For example the composition into ‘Samurai Fight’ is a very sudden introduction which is ideal as the section for this music is very jolted and fast dynamics to replicate the uncomfortable thought process. In total I have 4.5 minutes of choreography however, this is separated into different sections during the solo. Focusing on choreographic methods has worked very efficiently as it gives a structure on what I can work on however an area for improvement is time management. At this current moment I feel very prepared for the new year however over the Christmas break I will not have any studio time which will make it harder to get in the choreographic mindset. To take this as an opportunity I will reflect ...

Blog Post 5- Practitioner study

At the start of Piece 1: Atomos the lighting is red, green and blue- 2 of which are primary colours. In this piece there is a lot of partner work, some of which is same gender lifts and duets. In the first section movement is viscous, slow and leisurely. At 14 minutes there is a duet performed by a male and female dancer who incorporate every part of their body to lead them into another movement. There are moments where you see the extensions of the female dancer whilst being held by the strong male dancer. At 20 minutes there is a contrast in dynamics performed by another duet as their movements are sharp and powerful. In this the lighting is mostly red. At 45 minutes lines become more distinct, there is a change of expression from the dancers and you can see there is more intensity behind the movement.  Watching this piece of choreography, I thought that the parts fit together well. Although in some of the sections there is an obvious fit/ flow into the next section there are a...

Blog Post 4- Choreographic devices/ Motif Development

To develop from my stimulus, I have focused my motifs to have clear motion thus presenting a clear narrative to the audience. Some examples of choreographic devices that I have used within the piece are, embellishment, fragmentation, instrumentation, repetition, beat, choreographic structure, narrative structure, motif development, retrograde. Below I have attached videos of examples of using these devices within my choreography. Using these devices has intensified the communication of the stimulus to the audience which has created the desired impact for the piece.   Embellishment:   Sylvia Hall- Embellishment Instrumentation:   Sylvia Hall- Instrumentation Repetition:   Sylvia Hall- Repetition Beat:   Sylvia Hall- Beat Motif development:   Sylvia Hall- Motif Development Mirror: Sylvia Hall- Mirror
