Blog Post 9 – Evaluation
To conclude my choreographic process, I am very pleased with how my solo was performed and I think I maintained the essence of well thought out motifs throughout. As mentioned previously, I set out to create a piece which was focussed on Dyslexia and the challenges that I have faced with it. Furthermore, when developing this piece, I wanted to convey the message of how I process information and that it may take longer for me to retain information but my dedication to dance means that I will always try to work harder to retain choreography and overcome any challenges I face.
Overall, I
am very positive about this experience and I think it taught me a lot about
myself whilst giving me more confidence to express myself in a very personal
and meaningful way. Embracing this module was very mentally difficult for me as
I have never had the opportunity to portray my emotions and the physicality
towards this subject but I am grateful for having the experience to not feel
ashamed about it due to this assessment.
For my
future self, if I were given a similar task one thing I would take from this is
to not put myself down so easily if I am having a mental block. This happens to
everyone and is very normal and in this scenario I should refocus on motif
development as it is something that comes naturally to me which can then help
me get into the mentality of choreographing. Another experience from this task
which I would like to continue is researching different choreographers to find what
works for me and what I can learn from professionals, furthermore I can explore
who they have worked with and what companies they have been in, thus giving me
an idea on which companies I may audition for in my future career if I would
like to explore more within the industry.
